Small Towns of Chianti

Volpaia

Volpaia is a small village situated on a hilltop and was an important fortification in the Chianti defense system. It was built in the twelfth century, as testified by the elliptical layout, tower and walls. The town still houses a powerful donjon and numerous medieval buildings. We advise you to visit the marvellous 15th century church of San Eufrosino, called "la Commenda", situated near a small square closed to an old well.
