The Pontignan Carthusian Monastery

Founded in 1343 by Falcone Petroni, the Pontignano Monastery was fortified by the Sienese Republic. It was destroyed in 1554 during a battle, and rebuilt in 1600. The monastery was consacrated for a second time in 1607 while the cloister was not rebuilt until later. Today the monastery is the site of a college, and special cultural events.
