It is considered that in ancient times, there were two castles of Montegrossi as testified by the existence of two churches,
one dedicated to S. Margherita and the other one to S. Tommmaso. One of the two castles was erected by the Florentine to fight the rule of
Firidolfi and was destroyed in 1539 by Carlo V. We can see its ruins on the top of the hill which overhangs the entire area.
