Castellina in Chianti is situated on the ridge that divides the valleys of Elsa, Arbia and Pesa. Castellina offers a splendid view of the typical Tuscan landscape, overhanging a wide area of Chianti. The castle originally belonged to Federico II who then gave it to the nobles owners of the Trebbio castle and vassals of Lord Guidi. Castellina is of ancient origin as testified by the many archeologic and Etruscan finds.
We can still admire the medieval structure surrounded by the curtain walls with the original keep which is today the seat of the city hall. We advise you to visit the typical medieval streets and particularly the Via delle Volte, an underground passage, which is an authentic piece of jewellery.
