Chianti Small Towns

Barberino Val D'Elsa

This medieval town was probably built in 1300. It was originally a castle and then it became a Borgo. The village lies between the valleys of the Elsa and the Pesa. We can admire the typical medieval structure surrounded by thirteen century curtain walls linked together by wall towers and cut through by a main street connecting the two gates of access. The Ospedale dei Pellegrini was built by Taddeo di Cecco da Barberino in 1365. We advise you to explore the splendid medieval little streets and alleys, starting from Barberini Palace. The parish S. Appiano, dating from X century, is the most relevant church in the area.
