The Badia a Coltibuono is situated on the ridge that divides the Chianti area from the Valdarno valley,
at the height of 600 mt., in the road that links Gaiole to Montevarchi. The church, dating 1409, is dedicated to S. Lorenzo a Coltibuono.
Then it was restored and transformed in Abbey under the Vallombrosian jurisdiction. The cloister was built in 1427 while the church was restored
in 1500 and 1600. The church is Latin cross-shaped and has a single, centre aisle with open truss-beams and a splendid bell tower.
Not far, there is the monastery, today transformed in a residence palace.
